Summer Cadet Program

We are excited to announce the Chester Bowl Summer Cadet Program!

The focus of the Summer Cadet Program is to provide an opportunity for teens to spend their summer learning leadership skills, volunteering, and gaining experience in a summer camp setting. Cadets will spend each day at one of the three Chester Bowl camp locations playing with campers, working with staff, and planning, setting up, & running camp activities. In addition to spending time at camp, Cadets will have the opportunity to attend  “Cadet only” field trips during the course of the summer. Cadets will have access to workshops where they can learn skills like behavior management, conflict resolution, and other topics focused on the skills that camp counselors use each day at camp. Best of all, Cadets will spend their days outside playing in Chester Park, while being role models for the campers!

The Summer Cadet program is replacing the partnership with the South St. Louis County’s 4-H Incredible Exchange Program. Although we are running the program independently, it is very similar to what families experienced with the “Incredibles” program.

Age Requirement:

Cadets must have completed 7th grade or higher in order to participate. There are no exceptions to this requirement.

Minimum Volunteer Commitment

We expect Cadets to volunteer for at least 50 hours during the course of the summer. This is the equivalent of six full days of camp. Summer Camp runs Monday through Thursday, 8am-5pm, (7:45 start for Cadets and staff) from June 12th through August 17th. Cadets will sign up for individual days that work best for their schedules after attending orientation and can choose from the three camp sites (Lower Chester, Middle Chester, Upper Chester). Cadets do not need to sign up for full weeks. They can volunteer for full days or half days.

There will be two orientation that are crucial for Cadets to attend. The first orientation will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, May 17, 4:30-5:30pm. This orientation will be recorded and can be viewed afterwards. The second orientation will be in-person with summer camp staff. The in-person orientation will be held on Sunday, 5/21 12:30-4:30pm.
